Where is the ‘Best’ Place to meet your Mate?

The other week, one of my fellow male colleagues in the office chided me for working late. According to him, my ambitious life style is one of the primary reasons behind my single status. “If you stay couped up in the office from morning to night and spend most of your weekends indoors how do you expect to find a boyfriend?” he asked rather bluntly. I stared back in silence, for two reasons. One, my father had said the exact same thing to me the week before and two; I was beginning to think they both might just be right!

I discussed my dilemma with a few friends and we came up with a list of the tree top places for such romantic encounters….

We all agreed that the best place to meet someone was at a quiet, laid back, ‘get-together’. This is primarily because at such gatherings everyone is usually ‘at ease’ and more likely to mingle than at elaborate events where people tend to stick close to their own crowd.

Coming a close second was at weddings. According to my friend Temi, this is because weddings remind single guys that they need to settle down and there are always ample amounts of single ladies looking extremely hot! Whether this is true or not is off course open for debate!

Third, but definitely not the least was the almighty hook up! Yes, I agree that this isn’t technically a place but according to my friends, having someone who knows you (flaws and all) hook you up with someone else they know well, could actually be a match made in the stars.

We also concluded that the most unlikely place to meet ‘the one’ was at a club. This is primarily because there are way too many alcoholic contents floating about and the last thing on any guys mind at that point is looking for a bride.

Personally, I’m not too sure about strategizing or mapping out certain places to frequent in order to ‘meet’ the one. Call me romantic or naïve but when I do finally meet him I want to be pleasantly surprised and not secretly thankful that my ‘plotting’ worked. Plus, I also believe there is something to be said for letting fate guide you along life’s path without you second guessing each and every turn.

But what do you guys think? Have my friends and I totally missed the plot with our list? Do you have any other places in mind? If you are married, where did you meet your mate?

Join the discussion!

7 die in renewed cult war in Ambrose Alli varsity

BENIN CITY – THE university town of Ekpoma, turned into a theatre of war since Wednesday, as rival cult groups in the state owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), engaged themselves in a renewed cult clash killing seven persons so far.

Vanguard was reliably informed that the clash is between the Maphite Confraternity and the Black Axe. It was learnt that one of those killed was a student who had completed his exams and was awaiting his call up letter for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Vanguard gathered that the six of the people killed in the cult war were shot dead in different parts of Ekpoma, while one of the deceased was shot in front of university gate Wednesday. Five was said to have been killed last Wednesday while two was killed yesterday (Thursday).

But the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Peter Ogboi, confirmed only three dead and disclosed that two suspected cultist are already in police net in connection with the killings.

Ogboi explained that “the situation is worrisome but it is under control. We have sent we have sent operatives to the area and they are already making huge success to get all those involved. Two suspected cultists are already with us now, they were arrested with arms. They are being questioned over what happened in Ekpoma by a special squad of anti-crack team and they are going through intensive interrogation”.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr Chris Adamaigbo, claimed that the deceased students were not students of the university and that the institution has nothing to do with the ugly incident.

According to him, “the ones we are aware of now are not registered members of the university so we cannot say they are students of the university. The university authority has nothing to do with what is happening outside, the people involved have no business with the university”.

S’African court cautions Okah’s wife

Azuka, Okah, the wife of the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Mr. Henry Okah, on Thursday landed in the soup when her mobile phone rang at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

She found herself on the wrong side of the law during her husband’s bail application in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, the South African Press Association reports. When Azuka’s cellphone rang, the Magistrate, Mr. Hein Louw, ordered the court inspector to send her to the court’s holding cell.

However, Azuka pointed the inspector to her driver, who was seated in front of her, and he was sent to the court jail instead. When her driver was called to stand before the court, she claimed responsibility for the interruption.

The magistrate said, “She wilfully disturbed the court. My court is like Park Station. I have never seen my court this busy.

“Reporters are going in and out of my court, and I have warned people to switch off their phones.” Park Station is Johannesburg’s main railway station.

He said he understood that Azuka was under a lot of pressure, but could not accept the court being disrupted.

But Okah’s defence lawyer, Rudi Krause, pleaded with Louw for leniency in dealing with the matter. Krause explained that Azuka always had her phone off and that it was his fault that she switched it on.

“I was trying to get hold of her on her cellphone and I tried a number of times and could not talk to her,” Krause said.

Eventually, Azuka phoned Krause back and he asked her not to switch off her cellphone again. The charges she faces were not clear, but her case was postponed to Friday (today), SAPA reports

What does your name reflect? Words of Exhortation

Words of Exhortation

This message talks about the meaning and purpose of a name. I will however approach it from a female biblical figure. (No offence brothers.) I am sure you will receive your blessings as well if you receive with an open heart. This biblical figure was a woman whose qualities stand out among all the women mentioned in the Bible. Most Christian women of our generation like to identify themselves with this particular woman. She was a mother, a wife, a daughter, a patriot, a judge, a prophetess, a woman of wisdom and a warrior. And her name is Deborah.

Deborah means ‘Bee’. When we talk about Bee (s), honey comes to mind.

Honey is used for various purposes. For instance, it is used for cooking, for sandwich, for making body lotions, for medicine and much more. So, we can see that the name, Deborah, reflects its qualities; multifunctional that is, as I have mentioned above.

What does your name reflect?

Do you truly reflect yourself?

Does your name reflect who you are? These are questions we ought to ask ourselves. Many go about bearing names which they are not, possibly bearing curses in the name of names. God have mercy!

Our names can either reflect our character in a positive way or bring it out in a negative way, which in turn works against us. Many today, still give their children names that do not glorify God. Who would want to name his or her child Judas? When we hear the name Judas, what comes to mind is a traitor or a betrayer. Judas was one of Jesus’ disciples. He happened to be the one who betrayed Jesus for 30 silver shekels (See John 13:18; 26). This should teach us to know those we associate with however. Though, chosen by the Lord himself, he was a betrayer and a traitor. Could it be that God’s omniscient attribute ceased to function when He called Judas to follow Him? Not at all! (See John 18:1-4), God allowed Judas to be Judas. God will allow whichever name you bear until you see the unseen. As Judas later realized after he betrayed Jesus. (Judas Greek form of Judah means Praise). What is here to praise? Is it to fulfill scripture that the Messiah has to die, or by allowing Satan to use him? Either way, this remains a mystery.

I do not want to scare you but there are people who are rejected wherever they go for one reason or the other. Without any justifiable reason, they are just not acceptable or qualified to associate with the blessed ones. Let this article challenge you to search for the meaning of your name. I am, by no means, condemning your name or advocating conflict with your parents. It should be something you decide to do for your own benefit. I did research on my name years back; thank God its meaning is satisfactory.

We read in the Bible about individuals whose names God changed before he used them. Now! I would love you to test your Bible knowledge here; fill in the gap whose names come to mind that God changed their names, preferably, post your answer on comment link below………………………………………………. Of course, with exception of Jabez whose story followed next.

Jabez, 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 says, 9 “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

In ancient times, people named their children according to their circumstances. As seen in the case of Jabez, he quickly acknowledged what catastrophe awaited him if action was not taken. His name actually means pain. Coming to grips with this, he went to God so as to be a blessing instead of a curse, which, in this case, was pain.

Then again, why would one want to name a child based on a misfortune or tragedy? Could it be due to ignorance? What about people of today? Are they ignorant as well? Some people give their children Christian names while others give theirs, names which promote demonic influences. These are names such as Diana, Cynthia, Apollonian, Jacob etc. I assume that Deborah`s parents must have named her according to their circumstances too. Let’s see from the following text;

Judges 4: 4-9 Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. 5 She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came to her to have their disputes decided. 6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, "The LORD, the God of Israel, commands you: 'Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead the way to Mount Tabor. 7 I will lure Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.' "

8 Barak said to her, "If you go with me, I will go; but if you don't go with me, I won't go." So she said, 9“I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the LORD will sell Sesera into the hand of a woman”. Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.

The passage, Judges 4:4-9 teaches Deborah’s qualifications. She was one of the females mentioned in the Bible as being endowed with a prophetic gift. Not only was she endowed with spiritual gifting, she did reflect her name by her actions and character. She was a judge during the time of judges, she was a wife, patriot, prophetess and a warrior. In fact, she was the first female rule/leader mentioned in the Bible. Her name really speaks for her, she was a blessing to her generation.

I know of Christian women who call themselves ‘the Deborah generation’. There are even organizations named after Deborah. The question that goes through my mind each time I hear that statement, is, do they have the Deborah qualification? Not until character or attitude is changed, tapping to attain God’s purposes for our lives will be hard. We can only make an impact with the right attitudinal approach.

To be empowered or to be used by God requires the right attitude; One that entails

A decision maker,

A person others would want to emulate,

A person of integrity,

A peace maker,

A fighter of a good cause,

A victor and a person of faith,

A seeker of righteousness.

I challenge you therefore, you that are reading this article, which bad character in you are you willing to let go, in order for God to use you effectively, and also to reflect who you truly are? God will use you when you are ready. God does not use people who are perfect; God perfects those He uses.

God only uses those who are ready and willing just like Deborah and Jabez. Jabez needed a change of name for a good cause. Your change of name today could be your environment, friends, wrong associates etc. Deborah worked faithfully, reflecting her name to God’s glory, you, too could work reflecting your name to God’s glory.

God has placed many of us today in a position to be blessings but instead of being blessings, some have done wickedness with what God has given them. (Rulers, for instance, see Proverbs 8:15-16)). They exercise power to suppress and oppress people and sometimes; we see this, even, in the house of God (See Ezekiel 34:1-4). God will bypass anything that will bring shame to His church, and that includes your character and behavior. I pray you live a life that will bring glory to God, in return, fulfilling your purpose in life.

Conclusion:

The word which I have shared with you is not my word. It's God’s word. If you believe them, apply them to your situation and circumstances. Then watch God transform you into a jewel.

Out of ignorance many parents have given their children names which do not glorify God. This, however, can be changed. Thank God for Christianity. This has enlightened our understanding to spiritual matters better than it was, centuries ago. Whether you are a believer or not, please check the meaning of a name before giving it to your child.

God bless you!! Remember, God loves you with an everlasting love.

In His service Minister Rosemary Ariole

P-Square’s Dad Visits them In Lagos For The First Time

For the first time in 20 years, the father of the popular singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye, popularly known as P-Square, has visited his superstar sons in Lagos last week Tuesday to felicitate with them in their new mansion at the Omole, Ogba area.

The man, who came with his wife and mother of his six children from Jos was pleasantly surprised to see how far his sons have come. He was said to be skeptical initially towards the choice of musical career of his twin sons, P-Squar
Though he visited Lagos about 20 years ago, he has never been to Lagos since his sons disobeyed him and relocated to Lagos in 2005 to pursue their dreams.

Mr. Okoye was skeptical at the choice of musical career of his four sons, Jude, Tony, Peter and Paul while in the university. Jude was in UNIJOS, Tony was in University of Maiduguri, while Peter and Paul were in UNIABUJA.

Jude initially started as a musician; he even went on to wax two albums while Tony was the dancer among the brothers. It was he who taught P-Square how to dance, while Peter and Paul were dancing and singing.

Their dad stopped paying their school fees and warned them sternly not to call home for any assistance if they relocated to Lagos for music.

‘It was tough initially, but we knew this is what we wanted then, so we decided to move on’, Peter said. Did their father not feel bad after they started enjoying initial success? ‘Our dad apologized to us years ago when we were still at Jude’s house in Maryland. He called and told us that he was uncomfortable that four of his sons left home without asking after him. Then, we weren’t even that successful. He called us to say he was sorry. He wanted the best for us then, but we also knew what we wanted’, he said.

P-Square is a pop duo of twin brothers Peter and Paul and unarguably one of the most success music brands out of Africa. The group recently won KORA’s Africa Musician of the Year Award and the coveted N1 million-prize money. The group was recently signed on as Glocacom ambassadors in a deal that was reportedly worth of N200 million. With hit tracks like Ifunnaya, Busy Body, E no easy, Danger, Game Over, P-Square is definitely a top brand out of Africa.

Mystery surrounds missing three-year-old boy in Lagos

Missing 3yr old boy - AbdulMuqsit

When Mrs. Omowunmi Adeleke left her children, AbdulMuqsit, three-year-old, and his brother, AbdulMauteen, five-year-old, in the care of a neighbour identified simply as Mrs. Sanusi (Iya Mistura), on September 29, 2010, and headed for the Mile 12 Market to buy foodstuffs, she never had the premonition that one of the children would become missing before she returned from the market.

But on her return, she discovered that three-year-old AbdulMuqsit was missing from her residence at Maidun, Mile 12 area of Lagos. Since then, the whereabouts of the boy have remained unknown and none of the neighbours could explain the mystery surrounding his disappearance.

Omowunmi told PUNCH METRO on Saturday that she was still devastated at the disappearance of her second son. “How on earth can I lose such a precious son? What on earth could I have done to deserve such a torment?” she said.

She said, “On September 29, 2010, my baby, AdbulMuqsit, and AbdulMauteen were sleeping in the room and I went out with their father, Mr. Tobi Adeleke. When I came back, I closed one of the doors of our two rooms. I did not lock it with keys, I just closed it. I told my neighbour, Iya Misturat, to help me look after the children and she should be checking them for me. She agreed and I left for the market.

“On my way back, she (Iya Mistura) was ‘flashing’ my phone repeatedly. I wondered what the problem was. I thought maybe the children had woken up and that was why she was ‘flashing’ me. When I got home, I was surprised when my neighbour asked me where my baby was. I asked her, ‘Are you not the one that I told to look after them, so, why are you asking me again?‘ Iya Mistura said she thought that I came back and carried AbdulMuqsit when she was sleeping in her room. And I said, ‘no.’

“She told me that she put on the television for the elder brother, who later slept off beside his brother after watching for a while.
“Iya Mistura said when she saw that it was about raining, she packed my clothings that were spread on the lines and took them to my room.

“She said when she got into my room, she noticed that my son was no longer there. We then started looking for AbdulMuqsit. Up till now, we have not seen my son.”

Omowunmi said she later lodged a complaint at Ketu Police Station. She added that the police later invited Iya Mistura for questioning but she was released after she had explained that she did not know anything about the disappearance of my baby.

Omowunmi , who clarified that she did not suspect her neighbour of having a hand in her son’s disappearance, urged the authorities and kind spirited Nigerians to assist her to find him.

The police in their crime diary extract on October 1, confirmed the disappearance of AdbulMuqsit.
The entry was made by one Insp. Onoja, while Woman Police Cpl. Okpaleke was detailed to investigate the matter.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday also confirmed the incident but did not give much details.
